Breitling Avenger Seawolf Chrono
Breitling SA surpass themselves with the creation of the Avenger Seawolf Chrono. It is a truly functional deep sea diver’s watch. It is the perfect fashion accessory as well. The push pieces are back but this time they are magnetic. A lot of research must have gone into that, the fear being that magnets would harm the mechanical metal movements. So the answer reluctantly is in a quartz movement.

The Avenger Seawolf was good for a depth of 3000m or 10000 feet. The Chrono restricts itself to 1000m or 3300 feet. A practical balance between functionality and record breaking engineering has been reached in the Breitling Avenger Seawolf Chrono.
Very reluctantly the mechanical self winding movement has been given up for the modern Caliber Breitling 73. This is a SuperQuartz movement. As the official Breitling notification says it is a ‘thermo compensated quartz electronic’ movement. The chronograph inside the three sub dials measures up to one tenth of a second, sixty minutes and twelve hours. It can measure split times too with the flyback hand. The date aperture has been uniquely placed in this model at a place between four o’clock and the five o’clock marker.
The case is made out of a single steel block and it has a diameter of 45.40 mm. The thickness is of 18.00 mm and the weight is 150.6 g. The face glass is a cambered sapphire crystal which has been made glare proof on both sides. The interhorn width is 22/20. The extra in this model is the black steel case which is of a limited edition.
The dial is available in various colours which are Mariner blue, stratus silver, slate grey and volcano black dial. The numerals on the chronometer are in the attractive stencil mode. The stainless steel casing and the black steel casing look stunning with all the dials and the many choices in the bracelets and straps.
A superb addition in the chronometer for the seasoned Yachting professional is a gradation which counts down the ten minutes before the beginning of a regatta.
Many permutations and combinations are made available for creating an elegant watch with the four steel casings which are Steel, Blacksteel (Limited), Blacksteel (Yellow) and Blacksteel (Orange).Various dials and straps make this a chameleon of a chronometer. The dials are in seven different colours and these are volcano black, black, mariner blue, blue, slate-gray, stratus silver and silver.
The bracelet is the single version perfect Professional in steel. The aesthetic leather but impractical straps have five colours which include brown, gold, black, blue and green. The rubber Ocean Racer series has two colours which are the black and the blue. The Diver Pro rubber strap is also in black and blue but with a different sporty finish. The Diver Pro II rubber straps are in black and blue but again they have a different racy and sporty rugged look.
The Breitling Company has indeed come far since its humble rural beginnings in Saint Imier, Switzerland. Leon Breitling the founder would be proud of engineering marvels like the Breitling Avenger Seawolf Chrono.
